How I Met My Husband

Grant and I met at church.  I had just moved to the area at 23. He was the self-appointed greeter.  He stood at the entrance doors to the chapel. When I walked up, I first saw his bright piercing crystal blue eyes. Canadian steel blue as I came to call them later.

It was a pure color of blue unlike any blue I’d seen before. Little did I know my destiny was standing right in front of me in the doorway to a church meeting. I didn't know that exchange would change the course of my life.

At a get together afterward, someone pointed out Grant Thompson to me who was across the room. They said he was my neighbor. I had bought a townhome in Salt Lake City. Grant had bought a townhome in the same row.  And I thought to myself, I need to talk to him because I need to find out what rents are.

I planned on renting out the extra bedrooms in my house to offset the mortgage. I just kind a wanted to get a sense for what market rates would be. As soon as our little activity ended, I looked straight across the room and I beelined it right towards him.

I remember the look on his face when he saw me coming towards him.  I locked eyes with him as I crossed directly in his direction. He kind of looked at me and then he was kind of like ‘Heellloo.’

We talked a bit.  I said, “Hey, I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.” I wanted a tour of his house. He invited me over to come check it out.  I basically went over to his house that evening and we ended up talking for hours.

That was the beginning. From there we did group activities together until on one hike he grabbed my hand in front of everyone, basically announcing his intentions. We only casually dated for a few weeks. We didn’t even kiss till what was supposed to be a group trip to Hawaii.

Turns out, everyone bailed but me. Our first kiss happened there the first day at sunset. It was magical. I never wanted another first kiss. How do you get what you want? Move towards it.
